The Kahta or story of this Devauthanna Ekadashi Vrat is as follows:

Lord Shri Krishna said - andquot;O Arjun! You are my very dear friend. Oh Partha! Now I will tell you the story of Prabodhini Ekadashi which destroys sins and gives virtue and liberation. Listen with devotion - Let me tell you about a conversation between Naradi and Brahmaji on this subject.

Once Naradji asked Brahmaji - O father! What is the result of fasting on Prabodhini Ekadashi please tell me all this in detail.

Brahmaji said - O son! The result of fasting Shukla Pakshan Prabodhini Ekadashi in the month of Kartik is equal to the result of one thousand Ashwamedhas and one hundred Rajasuya Yagyas.

Naradji said - Oh Hita! What are the results of eating in the evening, eating at night and fasting all day? Explain in detail.

Brahmaji said -O Narad! By eating food in one night, all the sins of two births are destroyed, and by fasting the whole day, the sins of seven births are destroyed. A thing which is difficult to obtain in the three worlds can also be easily obtained by fasting on Prabodhini Ekadashi. Due to the effect of fasting on Prabodhini Ekadashi, even the greatest sins are destroyed in an instant. Fasting on Prabodhini Ekadashi immediately destroys many bad deeds done in the previous birth.

Those people who follow the Prabodhini Ekadashi fast according to their nature will get complete results. Oh boy! Those people who do good deeds with dedication today, their good deeds will become solid like a mountain. Those people who reflect in their hearts that they fast on Prabodhini Ekadashi, the sins of their hundred births will be destroyed. Those people who keep watch at night on Prabodhini Ekadashi, their past and future ten generations go to Vishnu Loka and live there and their ancestors after suffering many hardships in hell go to Vishnu Loka to enjoy happiness.

Dear Narada! Even major sins like Brahmahatya etc are destroyed on Prabodhini Ekadashi by keeping vigil day and night. The results of staying awake at night on Prabodhini Ekadashi are more than Yagyos like Ashwamedha etc. The result of visiting all the places of pilgrimage and giving a cow, orland etc. is equal to Prabodhinian's night vigil. Oh boy! Only that person who has purified his family by fasting on Prabodhini Ekadashi will succeed in life in this world. All the pilgrimages that exist in the world and all the pilgrimages to be expected are in the one fasting house of Prabodhini Ekadashi. For the happiness of Lord Shri Hari, a living being must observe the Prabodhini Ekadashi fast in the month of Kartik, renouncing all actions. A person who observes this Ekadashi fast is wealthy, a yogi, an ascetic and a conqueror of the senses because Ekadashi is very dear to Lord Vishnu. Under the influence of this fast, a person is freed from the cycle of birth and death.

All three types of sins - physical, verbal and mental - are mitigated by the effect of this Ekadashi fast. On that Ekadashi day, people who engage in charity, penance, Homa, Yagya etc. to attain Lord Vishnu attains infinite virtues. After worshiping Lord Shrihar on Prabodhini Ekadashi, all the sins of youth and old age are destroyed. The result of staying awake on this Ekadashi night is a thousand times greater than taking a bath during a solar eclipse. The virtues one does from birth are nothing compared to the virtues of fasting on Prabodhini Ekadashi. A person who does not fast on Prabodhini Ekadashi, all his good deeds go to waste.

Therefore, oh boy! You should also worship Lord Vishnu as per the rituals. Those people who remain pious in the corn moon and do not eat other people's food will get the fruits of Chandrayaan quickly. In the month of Kartik, the god is not so pleased with offerings etc. for he is glad to hear the stories of the Scriptures. In the month of Kartika, those people who even read or listen to the word of the Lord get the fruits of donating cows. After listening to Brahmaji, Naradji said - and#039;O father! Now tell me about Ekadashi fasting method and what virtue you get by observing which fast? Explain that too.

After hearing Naradanda's words, Brahmaji said - O son! On this day of Ekadashi one should wake up on Brahma Muhurta and after bathing decide to fast. At this time one should pray to Lord Vishnu, Lord! Today I will continue to fast and the next day I will be able to eat, so protect me. This is how to pray and worship God and start fasting. This night should be spent near God singing, dancing, playing instruments and reading stories. On Prabodhini Ekadashi day one should give up misery and worship God with flowers, agar, incense etc. Arghya should be offered to god along with shells. Its results are millions of times greater than the offerings of pilgrimages, etc. Even Indra claps his hands in front of people who worship God with Agastya flower. Those who worship the Lord with the spring of Bilva in the month of Kartik will finally attain salvation. A person who worships God with Tulsi in the month of Kartik, all his sins of ten thousand births are destroyed. Those people who see or touch Shri Tulsij or meditate or do kirtan or plant Shri Tulsij or serve Shri Tulsij, they live in the world of Lord Vishnu for a thousand Kotiyugas. Born into a family of planters of the tulsi plant, they remain in Vishnuloka until the end of the pralay.

Those people who worship God with the Kadamba flower do not suffer from the problems of Yamraj. Lord Vishnu who fulfills all desires becomes very happy after seeing the Kadamba flower. If one worships him with a Kadamba flower, there is nothing better than that. Those who worship God with rose flowers will surely get salvation. Those people who worship God with Bakuli and Ashoka flowers will remain free from sorrow forever. God is very pleased with those people who worship Vishnu with white and red Kaneri flowers. Those people who worship Lord Shri Hari from afar get a hundred times more results than the results of worship. Those who worship God with Shami leaves easily traverse the path of the terrible Yamraj. People who worship Lord Vishnu with the Champaka flower are liberated from the cycle of life and death.

Those people who offer the Ketaki flower made of gold to God, the sins of their millions of births are destroyed. Those people who worship God with the fragrant flowers of the yellow and blood-colored lotus are given a seat in the white lamp. Thus, after worshiping God at night, one should bathe in the river with pure water in the morning. After bathing one should praise God and come home to worship God. After that the Brahmins should be fed, given Dakshina and sent away happily with respect. After that one should worship the Guru and give up rules by giving Dakshina to Brahmins. People who bathe at night should donate curd and honey. People who expect fruits should donate fruits. Ghee should be donated instead of oil and milk instead of ghee, rice instead of grains. People who sleep on the ground during this fast must donate their beds and all their belongings. Those who observe silence should donate sesame seeds along with gold. Those people who do not use Khadaun in the month of Kartik must donate Khadaun. Those who give up salt this month must donate sugar. People who light lamps in temples dedicated to God every day should donate a golden or copper lamp with ghee and a wick. Those people who renounce everything during the Chaturmasya fast, they will reconcile again from this day. People who fast on Prabodhini Ekadashi day attain eternal bliss and finally reach heaven. Those people who complete the Chaturmasya quickly without hindrance need not be reborn. People whose fast is broken should start it again. Those who listen and recite the greatness of this Ekadashi attain the fruits of Ashwamedha Yagya.
