Padmini Ekadashi Vrat Katha -
- Ekadashi Vrat Kathas
Padmini Ekadashi Vrat Katha
The Kahta or story of this Padmini Ekadashi Vrat is as follows:
Prince Padmini, the blessed child born to King Dundhumar and his queen after observing the Padmini Ekadashi Vrat with utmost devotion, grew up to be a true epitome of righteousness and wisdom. Under the loving guidance of his parents and the wise counsel of sages, he imbibed the values of dharma (righteousness) and compassion. As he reached adulthood, it became evident that he possessed extraordinary qualities that endeared him to the hearts of his subjects.
King Dundhumar, recognizing his son's exceptional qualities, decided to step down from the throne and coronate Prince Padmini as the new king of Champakanagar. The kingdom rejoiced at this decision, for they knew that they were blessed with a ruler whose compassion and wisdom would lead them to an era of unparalleled prosperity and peace.
The coronation of Prince Padmini was celebrated with grandeur and magnificence. The entire kingdom adorned itself with colorful decorations, and the streets were filled with joyous celebrations as the people eagerly welcomed their new ruler. Amidst the festivities, Prince Padmini took his oath to uphold the principles of dharma and to rule the kingdom with fairness and justice.
As the king of Champakanagar, Prince Padmini became known for his unwavering commitment to the welfare of his people. He ruled with impartiality and listened to the grievances of both the rich and the poor, ensuring that justice was served to all. The kingdom prospered under his benevolent rule, and the subjects enjoyed a life of abundance and happiness.
Despite his busy schedule, King Padmini never missed observing the Padmini Ekadashi Vrat each year. He would fast and pray with the same devotion and sincerity he had learned from his parents. The Lord's grace continued to bless the kingdom, and it thrived under the virtuous leadership of King Padmini.
One day, during the sacred month of Kartika (October - November), while observing the Kartik Ekadashi Vrat, King Padmini experienced a divine vision. Lord Vishnu appeared before him in all His resplendent glory, blessing the king with celestial flowers and bestowing divine knowledge upon him. The Lord praised King Padmini for his unwavering devotion and dedication to dharma, promising him eternal support and guidance in his righteous endeavors.
King Padmini's reign faced a significant test during a challenging drought that struck the kingdom. The crops withered, the rivers ran dry, and the people suffered from scarcity. Despite his best efforts, the king was unable to alleviate the suffering of his subjects. In desperation, he turned to the sages for counsel.
The sages advised King Padmini that the only way to overcome the drought was to perform a grand yagna dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The yagna required a rare and auspicious herb, which was found only in a distant and treacherous mountain range.
Undeterred, King Padmini decided to embark on the perilous journey himself. Leaving the affairs of the kingdom in the hands of his able ministers, he set out on a quest to obtain the sacred herb that would save his people.
As King Padmini ventured into the daunting mountains, he faced numerous challenges along the way. The path was fraught with dangers, and he encountered fierce animals and harsh weather conditions. Despite the adversities, the king persisted with unyielding determination, fueled by his devotion to his people and his faith in Lord Vishnu.
One night, while seeking shelter, King Padmini stumbled upon a mysterious cave. Curiosity and divine intuition led him inside, where he discovered a meditating sage radiating an aura of immense power. The sage welcomed the king with a warm smile and revealed that he was none other than Lord Vishnu Himself, taking the form of a sage to test the king's virtue and determination.
Pleased with King Padmini's unwavering commitment to his duty and his undying devotion, Lord Vishnu praised the king's virtues. He declared that he was immensely pleased with the king's sense of responsibility and selflessness in seeking the herb for the welfare of his people. The Lord blessed the king and promised that the drought would soon come to an end, and prosperity would return to Champakanagar.
With divine grace, King Padmini obtained the sacred herb and returned to his kingdom. As promised by Lord Vishnu, the drought subsided, and the land blossomed once again with lush greenery and bountiful harvests. The kingdom rejoiced, and its love and admiration for King Padmini deepened even further.
Throughout his life, King Padmini continued to observe the Padmini Ekadashi Vrat with unwavering devotion, gratitude, and humility. He considered the vrat to be the source of his strength and guidance, and he encouraged his subjects to follow the vrat as well.
Under King Padmini's rule, Champakanagar became a beacon of righteousness and prosperity. His fame spread far and wide, and neighboring kingdoms looked up to him as an exemplar of virtuous leadership.
As King Padmini's life journey neared its end, he called upon his ministers, sages, and the people of the kingdom. Expressing his love and gratitude for their unwavering support, he entrusted the throne to his capable heir, ensuring that his legacy of righteousness and devotion to Lord Vishnu would continue.
Amidst prayers and divine chants, King Padmini breathed his last, leaving behind a kingdom that remained forever indebted to his virtuous rule. His name and the Padmini Ekadashi Vrat became synonymous with prosperity, righteousness, and devotion.
The legend of Padmini Ekadashi Vrat portrays the divine blessings that come from observing this sacred fast with sincerity and devotion. King Padmini's life serves as an inspiring example of righteous leadership, unwavering devotion, and the rewards of selflessness and compassion.
Even today, devotees continue to observe the Padmini Ekadashi Vrat, seeking blessings from Lord Vishnu for forgiveness of sins, prosperity, and spiritual growth. The vrat reminds people of the eternal message that righteousness, devotion, and selfless service are the paths to divine grace and fulfillment in life.
